Job Description:
Every park staff member wears many hats. We all work together daily in the field to run park operations, often serving over a thousand patrons each weekend day between June and August. Our work includes all park upkeep, customer service, public safety, trail monitoring, and basic education; in the Hopkinton complex, we have a variety of wooded trails, picnic areas, historic earthen dams, and freshwater beaches, all of which we are proud to steward and offer to the public to enjoy.
A workday at the park might include patrolling, cutting grass, raking leaves, repairing picnic tables, attending to bathrooms, and picking up trash. We regularly monitor trails for storm damage and proper water drainage. We frequently assist with large planned events, reservations, and parking direction and ticket sales. Customer service is another important part of our daily work; our goal is to provide the public with a vital natural and cultural resource — and a great time out in the fresh air.
The nature of our work means each day is a little different. Many students return each summer and gain a variety of skills that help them move up the ranks in DCR park operations, or give them an edge in permanent employment outside of the agency.
