What is a Career Champion?

A Career Champion is a faculty or staff member who actively supports student career development by embedding career conversations, resources, and opportunities into their everyday interactions with students. Career Champions are not expected to serve as career counselors themselves, but rather to act as connectors, advocates, and encouragers who:

  • Recognize the importance of career readiness as part of student success.
  • Refer students to appropriate career services, tools, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Reinforce the development of skills, competencies, and professional habits in their teaching, advising, or mentoring.
  • Role model lifelong learning, networking, and career exploration behaviors.
